About the museum
The Delinaneio Laografiko Mouseio Kastorianis Gynaikas is housed in a traditional three-storey 19th-century mansion in the Ntoltso district. The house belonged to Anastasios Delinanos and his wife Zoi Doikou, who donated it to the Proodeftiko Syllogo Kyrion Kastorias (Progressive Women’s Association of Kastoria). Since November 1997 it has operated as a museum, cared for by the association’s members.
The museum’s main theme is women, and it shows the traditional way of life of the people of Kastoria. Visitors follow the life of a Kastorian woman from her wedding day and her celebrations to her daily work and the management of the household. On the first floor are the everyday room and the summer bedroom; on the second floor, the central hall and the winter bedroom.
Its collections include women’s and men’s formal costumes, underwear, wedding dresses, embroidery, woven textiles and household utensils from the 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as old photographs and portraits of women from Kastorian communities abroad. The exhibits come from donations by Kastorian families and expatriates. Books by Kastorian authors are available on site.
