About the museum
The Ethniko Sidirodromiko Mouseio tou OSE was founded by the Railways Organisation of Greece (OSE) in 1978 and was initially housed in Athens, at 4 Siokou Street. In 2019 the collection was moved to Piraeus, to the complex of the former locomotive depot, and the new museum was opened on 29 May 2019.
The site is housed in the former Piraeus locomotive depot (Rotonda), a listed building constructed in 1912 by the Piraeus–Athens–Peloponnese Railways (SPAP), which operated without interruption until 2005. Light maintenance of the steam locomotives of the Peloponnese metre-gauge network was carried out there.
The collection includes historical vehicles from the 1870s to the 1970s, technical equipment for traction, operation and maintenance, and archival material of OSE, HSAP and industrial railway networks. Restoration work is ongoing.
