About the museum
The Laografiko kai Ekklisiastiko Mouseio Filotiou opened to the public on 15 May 2022, on the initiative of the local priest, teachers and the Local Council of Filoti. It is housed in the vaulted spaces of old olive presses next to the church of Panagia Filotitissa.
The folklore section recreates a Naxian house of the early 20th century, with traditional costumes, dowries, embroideries, a loom, spinning tools, a cradle, a battery radio and traditional instruments. Also on display are an olive press, farming and herding tools and objects related to the village post office.
In the ecclesiastical section, liturgical objects of the 19th century, embroidered vestments, church books and icons are presented, among them one from 1790, and a baptismal font.
