About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Polygyros has operated since 1998 in the renovated two-storey house of the former mayor Ath. Karagkanis, who donated it for this purpose. The exhibits come from donations by residents and citizens of Polygyros. The museum is looked after by the Ethelontikos Omilos Gynaikon Polygyrou (volunteer women’s group of Polygyros) and the municipal enterprise.
On the ground floor are agricultural tools for ploughing, sowing, reaping and threshing, as well as traditional costumes. The upper floor recreates a 19th-century town house with salons, bedrooms and a kitchen with equipment of the period, while a separate room houses a traditional loom. The house also contains authentic costumes from the wider area of Polygyros.
The office of the former mayor Karagkanis, which has recently been renovated, is also preserved on the upper floor.
