About the museum
The Laografiko Mouseio Patmou is housed in the mansion of the Simantiris family, in the centre of Chora, next to the Moni tis Zoodochou Pigis. The building, with stone arches and inner courtyards, dates from 1625 and is considered the oldest mansion in the island’s capital.
The exhibits cover the period from the 14th to the 19th century: icons in the Russian style, wooden furniture, paintings, old photographs and family heirlooms. A distinctive exhibit is a foot-pedal dentist’s chair made in New York, which recalls the family’s dental tradition.
