About the museum
The Yannis Tsarouchis Foundation was founded in 1981 and is based in Marousi, at 28 Ploutarchou Street, where the museum is also housed. Its aim is to assemble as complete a collection of the painter’s works as possible, to record and conserve it to international museum standards, and to promote his work through exhibitions, loans, publications and support for researchers. Tsarouchis served as chairman of the foundation until his death in July 1989.
The two-storey building was designed by Tsarouchis himself as a residence and studio and was designated a listed monument in 1985 and again in 2002. The ground floor houses the administration and a small shop, while the first floor and the attic, where the painter’s studios were, now function as exhibition spaces and are preserved as he created them. The collections include paintings, drawings and stage designs by Tsarouchis, works by other artists and archives.
