About the museum

The museum is housed in the two-storey Zoulia mansion, built in 1864, a representative example of the so-called “Egyptian” mansions of Pelion. Its collections include archive material of the municipality of Ormini (later the community of Portaria), rare books and other evidence of the educational history of the place, objects that survived from the luxurious hotel “Mega Theoxenia” of the early 20th century, and photographs, documents and objects relating to the presence of the people of Portaria in Egypt.

The private and social life of the people of Portaria is also presented through photographs, garments, household utensils and everyday objects, as well as handmade embroidery, mainly lace, the work of the women of the village.
