About the museum
The Castle of Antirrio, also known as Kasteli of Roumeli, is one of the most distinctive monuments of the area. It was built by the Ottomans around 1500 in a short time, almost at the same time as the Fortress of Rio, in a strategic position where the distance between Central Greece and the Peloponnese is at its narrowest.
It has a hexagonal plan, reinforced with angled polygonal bastions. It was rebuilt in 1533 and underwent several repairs over its long history, as it was contested between the Ottomans and the Venetians.
