About the museum
The Centre for the History and Culture of Evrytania was established by the Region of Central Greece with the aim of presenting the history of the area, education, research and contact with the local community. It is housed in a renovated building that formerly housed the Forestry Office of Karpenisi, about 600 metres from the city’s central square.
The permanent exhibition “The Treasures of Evrytania” is arranged in four sections: life in ancient Evrytania, Byzantine and post-Byzantine Evrytania, the period of Ottoman rule and more recent history. The museum has six rooms, two of which are reserved for screenings.
A special feature is two rooms of virtual and augmented reality. In the first, visitors can “visit” the church of Episkopi, which lies submerged in Lake Kremasta, while in the second the battle of Kefalovryso is projected, where Markos Botsaris lost his life. The museum also uses the museum theatre as a means of interpretation.
