About the museum
The listed stone building once served as the village school. On its premises the Political Committee of National Liberation (PEEA), the so-called government of the mountains, organised the First National Assembly of Greeks fighting for liberation in May 1944. 176 national councillors took part from all over the country, and the resolution that all powers derive from the people was adopted.
On the ground floor the museum has a library of scholarly works, while on the upper floor an exhibition with rich photographic material is housed, including photographs by the Resistance photographer Spyros Meletzis. In the forecourt is a monument to that historic day.
The museum is being upgraded with a new permanent exhibition on the National Resistance, in cooperation with the Hellenic Parliament, the Region of Central Greece and the Kokkalis Foundation.
