About the museum
The museum is housed in a three-storey traditional stone mansion in Megalo Chorio, about 14 kilometres from Karpenisi. The exhibits come from donations by the residents of the village.
On the first floor the traditional occupations of the area are presented, with agricultural tools, utensils and equipment for technical trades. On the second floor the old clock of the village is displayed, which operated without interruption from 1926 to 1988 and still bears traces of bullets from the German invasion, together with two reconstructed rooms: a chamber with a loom and the parlour of a well-to-do house. On the third floor are traditional costumes, embroidery, woven textiles, rare photographs, historical documents, works of folk art and religious objects.
The museum has a library of more than 5,000 titles and a modern multi-purpose hall.
