About the museum
The museum bears the name of Michalis Tsartsidis and is located in Sidirokastro, Serres, in a private building. It has operated since the late 1970s and grew out of a private collection of weapons and folklore objects.
The collection numbers about 4,500 objects in two sections, a historical and a folklore one. The historical section includes weapons, uniforms, photographic and printed material and rare personal items of fighters from national struggles, with emphasis on the Roupel fortifications. The folklore section presents local costumes and objects of everyday life.
The museum is connected with wartime shelters, where visitors can see marks left by bullets from the occupiers’ ammunition.
