About the museum
The Laografiko kai Istoriko Mouseio Milou was founded in 1967 by the Union of Milians in Athens. It is housed in a two-storey house about two hundred years old, in the courtyard of the church of Panagia Korfiatissa in Plaka.
The museum presents the life of the Milians after the 17th century, mainly the period 1850–1930, when Milian society flourished. Visitors see what an urban Milian household of the 19th century was like: the living room, the workroom with the loom, the kitchen, the bedroom and the cellar, which also served as a store for farm produce, while the mezzanine serves as a historical archive. On display are furniture, woven and embroidered textiles, costumes of the period, household utensils, decorative and everyday objects, as well as old photographs.
