About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Aitoliko is housed in a restored stone building that formerly operated as an olive press, at the entrance to Aitoliko. The museum has three halls with exhibits from everyday life in Aitoliko over the last two centuries.
Household objects and the furniture of an average urban house are on display, as well as a loom and fishermen's tools. In a specially arranged space, the façade of a pelada (traditional fishermen's hut), the stilt-built little house of the lagoon and a gaita, a boat without a keel, have been set up, elements closely linked with the fishing tradition of the area. The exhibits also include local costumes from the time of the Revolution to the mid-20th century, among them two dresses by the engraver Vasso Katraki.
