About the museum
The Folklore and History Museum of Ampelakia opened in 2001 with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage of the historic community of Ampelakia.
It is housed in a restored two-storey mansion, known as the “Mola mansion”, close to the village's central square. The whole building functions as part of the exhibition: visitors pass through the hayati, the everyday winter sitting room that was also used as a workplace, the formal winter reception room, the kitchen, the room with the continuous sachnisi, a feature of Ampelakia's architecture, and the bedroom with the bride's dowry.
The exhibits include collections of folklore objects, old photographs and historical documents about the life, work and customs of the people of Ampelakia.
