About the museum
The National Resistance Museum is housed in the building of the former prison of Larisa, an old gunpowder magazine, on Ioustinianou Street, in the grounds of the school complex of the 5th Gymnasium–Lyceum. The 18th-century building is a listed historic monument.
The permanent exhibition “1941–1944: Thessaly Resists” shows how the people of Thessaly organised themselves to liberate their homeland from the Axis powers. The exhibits relate to the period of the Greco-Italian War, the occupation and the National Resistance, and include maps, resistance press, photographs, typewriters used by ELAS and EPON, and uniforms of Stefanos Sarafis. The museum also has a special hall for temporary exhibitions and events.
