About the museum
The Folklore Museum of the Pontian Union of Pieria was founded by the Pontian Association of Pieria and is housed in a building of the Association in central Katerini, near the Municipal Park. It opened in 1990, after efforts to collect folklore material that families of refugees from Pontus who had settled in Pieria still possessed. The effort was carried out by a three-member committee under the supervision of Professors Dimitris Pantermalis and Nora Skouteri.
The purpose of the museum is to preserve and showcase the cultural wealth of the Greeks of Pontus. It has about 600 objects of social, folklore and historical interest, some of which are particularly valuable.
