About the museum
The Museum of Contemporary Art of MOMus has its roots in the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the first museum of contemporary art in Greece. Its collections come mainly from donations by figures of the art world, such as Alexandros Iolas, Alexandros and Dorothea Xydis and Giorgos Apergis, as well as from the former State Museum of Contemporary Art.
The museum presents regular exhibitions and hosts the Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art. The Alex Mylonas Museum in Athens also belongs to the Metropolitan Organisation of Museums of Visual Arts of Thessaloniki, while the mission of the organisation focuses on well-being and social change.
