About the museum
The museum opened on 10 September 2000 and was inaugurated by the then President of the Republic, Konstantinos Stefanopoulos. It is housed in the “House of the Goldsmiths of Nevesca”, a three-storey building in the centre of the village, a faithful replica of an old mansion. Nevesca is the former name of Nymfaio. The walls are painted, the ceilings have elaborate Macedonian decoration, and the house is furnished with rare furniture and traditional household goods of the 19th century.
The display cases contain two series of rare silversmithing tools and a collection of silver and goldsmithing works: silverware, men's and women's jewellery, silver church vessels, buckles, belts and cigarette cases, as well as matrices and medals of well-known engravers. There are also authentic women's costumes, portraits of prominent Vlach national benefactors, fighters of 1821 and teachers of the Genos (Greek nation), as well as manuscripts and mementos of the Macedonian Struggle, among them letters from Pavlos Melas, Efthymios Kaoudis and Germanos Karavangelis.
