About the museum
The Ethnolaografiko Mouseio Lechovou was founded in 1976 by the Enotikos Syllogos Lechovitōn “O Profitis Ilias” (association of the people of Lechovo), which had begun collecting folklore and church objects. It is housed in a traditional building from 1900, a little outside the central square of the village, which served as a school until 1958 and then as a community shop. The association partly restored it in the 1980s and fully in 2005.
The collections number more than 1,000 objects, all of which come from Lechovo. The church exhibits, dating from roughly 1600 to 1850, include icons, liturgical vessels, Gospel books, Venetian liturgical books and the royal door of the church of Agia Paraskevi from 1760.
The folklore and ethnological sections display women’s costumes, a waterproof shepherd’s cape of goat hair, weapons of the Macedonian Struggle, tools of traditional trades, a loom, woven textiles and household utensils.
