About the museum
The museum is housed in the stone house where the poet Angelos Sikelianos and his American wife Eva Palmer-Sikelianou lived. The house was completed in 1926 under Eva's supervision and abandoned a few years later, in 1933. It was expropriated in the 1960s in favour of the Greek Tourism Organisation, restored in 1985 by the European Cultural Centre of Delphi, and opened as a museum in summer 1991.
The couple organised the Delphic Festivals of 1927 and 1930, with performances of ancient drama in the ancient theatre, athletic contests, folk exhibitions and concerts of Byzantine music. The festivals attracted politicians, scientists and artists from many countries.
The museum displays rich photographic material, costumes woven and designed by Eva Palmer-Sikelianou herself, personal objects of the couple, the poet's manuscripts and her loom. The building lies above the archaeological site of Delphi, close to the Archaeological Museum.
