About the museum
The Museum of Philhellenism was founded and is run by the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism. Its mission is to present the development of philhellenism from the Renaissance to the present day, with emphasis on its contribution to Greece's national independence, and to support classical education and the values of Greek culture.
The collections document the influence that Greek education and culture have had on the arts, politics, creativity and social progress. They include philhellenic art (paintings, porcelain and utilitarian objects), documents, Greek and ancient Greek art, a coin collection and weapons. A separate section is devoted to Lord Byron, the Romantic poet and philhellenic fighter.
