About the museum
Nikos Perantinos (1910–1991) studied at the School of Fine Arts and continued his studies in Paris. In 1941 he was appointed sculptor at the Archaeological Museum, where he carried out important restorations of ancient sculptures. In 1964 he returned to Paros and founded a marble-sculpture workshop in Agia Anna of Paroikia, with the aim of continuing the tradition of sculpture on the island.
After his death in 1991, the museum opened in a small hall in Marpissa, on the eastern side of Paros. The museum holds 192 sculptures, reliefs and drawings, works that the artist donated to his home place. Later the museum’s board of directors, with the assistance of the Municipality of Paros and the Ministry of Culture, extended the space.
Today the museum is housed in a renovated neoclassical building with five large halls, where the works of Perantinos are displayed. Sculpture workshops, open to people of all ages, are also organised.
