About the museum
The Museum Benetos & Popi Skiadas in Alyki on Paros is the creation of the folk artist Benetos Skiadas, with the support of his wife Popi for 43 years. Its aim is to preserve Cycladic tradition, to present the traditional trades and tools that have been lost, and to encourage young people to learn and continue the tradition.
The museum includes large-scale miniatures, handmade using traditional techniques and natural materials, as well as ship models and old objects. Among Skiadas’s works are the ancient theatre of Milos, made of Parian marble (3 × 2.5 m), the Ekatontapiliani of Paros (3 × 3 m), the Chozoviotissa Monastery of Amorgos (2 × 2 m) and the Tourlitis lighthouse of Andros (3 × 2.5 m). The miniatures also include the first café of Paros, a traditional windmill, a blacksmith’s workshop with all its tools and the dovecote of Tinos.
