About the museum
The Varvayannis Ouzo Museum is in Plomari on Lesbos, in front of the company’s own distilleries, at the 1st kilometre of the Plomari–Mytilene provincial road. It was created to present the family tradition of ouzo production, which began in the mid-19th century and continues to this day.
In the display cases are the first bottling and labelling tools of the well-known blue label, as well as the first still (kazani) built in 1858 in Constantinople. With it the family’s techniques and recipes were tested.
Visitors are guided through an audiovisual presentation in Greek and English, and ouzo tastings are also held. The museum has a visitor reception centre and a gift shop, and admission is free. Special guided tours in Swedish, Danish and German can be arranged for groups by prior arrangement.
