About the museum
In October 1989 the Vasilis Papantoniou Foundation, formerly the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation, opened a model space dedicated to the child in the old railway station of Nafplio. The site includes the building of the station’s old warehouse and its platform. It was granted by the Municipality of Nafplio to the Foundation, which converted it into a children’s venue with multiple functions.
“The Station” serves as a space for presenting the Foundation’s collections on children and as a venue for educational programmes. The collections include toys and objects for boys and girls, such as garments, food and hygiene items and school supplies; the customs marking stages of childhood, such as birth and baptism; and objects of popular theatre, such as puppet theatre and Karagiozis. Emphasis is placed not only on collectors’ pieces but also on simple toys that children really played with. The new permanent exhibition is titled “Paidiothen…” (From Childhood…).
