About the museum
The Giannitsa Military Museum is located in the centre of the town's pedestrian zone, in a ground-floor space of about 70 m² in the building of the former Garrison Officers' Club. It opened on 21 December 2011.
The museum presents the Macedonian Struggle of 1904–1908, with emphasis on the Battle of Valtos near Giannitsa, as well as the Balkan Wars of 1912–1913. With photographs, relics and models, visitors see the fighters of the era, their weapons, medals, postcards and newspaper clippings. A short audiovisual presentation helps to understand the events, while a separate section is devoted to Macedonian fighters such as Pavlos Melas, Tellos Agras, Katechakis and the Metropolitan of Kastoria, Germanos Karavangelis.
