About the museum
The Water Museum of Edessa was created in 1993, when it was decided to develop the Waterfalls area. It covers the city's old industrial zone, where workshops and factories that harnessed the power of water operated for decades, and recalls Edessa's description as the “Manchester of the East”.
The site consists of eight sections, each presenting a different activity, set in a garden with plane trees and artificial canals. Ardisoglou Mill has a rare horizontal wheel; local products are hosted at Pertsemli Mill, while Giannakis Mill houses an aquarium and a vivarium with species from the area. In another building local minerals and rocks are displayed, and the Kannavourgeio (hemp works) of 1909, a rope and thread factory, also stands out.
