About the museum
The Folklore Museum of Panagitsa was created by the Pontic association “Akrites Panagitsas” in one room of the village's community office. Panagitsa belongs to the Municipality of Edessa, and its residents are mainly refugees from Pontus, Thrace and Asia Minor who settled here in the 1920s. The association was founded in 1978 and works to preserve Pontic tradition.
Most of the exhibits come from the Pontus region. Particularly notable are the authentic wedding wreaths from Malakha of Argyroupoli and the historic church bell, which the refugees brought with them. Also displayed are agricultural tools, traditional costumes, weapons and household utensils, church objects (oil lamps, bells, icons, wreaths and an altar cloth of 1724), an old camera and a large collection of books from the urban school of Akra.
