About the museum
The Ady Emlékmúzeum operates in the city-centre tenement flat where Ady Endre and his wife, Boncza Berta (Csinszka), lived from 1917 to 1919. Csinszka inherited the flat from her father in 1917; the couple had married in 1915.
After Ady’s death Csinszka moved out in 1920 and sold the flat. The memorial museum opened in 1977, on the hundredth anniversary of the poet’s birth, as an exhibition site of the Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum (Petőfi Literary Museum).
Visitors can walk through the rooms of the flat from the bathroom to the bedroom, see the poet’s personal objects and a significant part of the couple’s furniture, which is original. In the museum-education space an audio recording from 1977 can be heard, in which the couple’s former maid, Vonyica, recalls them.
