About the museum
The local history collection in Budaörs was initiated by the town’s leaders in 1980, and its material was gathered from donations by the population. The collection received a museum licence in 1987 and moved into the former Wéber house; the opening took place on 18 August 1987. From 2004 the maintainer was the Budaörsi Német Nemzetiségi Önkormányzat (German Minority Local Government of Budaörs), and since 2008 the museum has also housed the Magyarországi Német Tájházak Információs Központja (Information Centre of German Village Heritage Houses in Hungary).
After the renovation, the new permanent exhibition in four rooms opened in May 2018. In the reception room old picture postcards of Budaörs are displayed; the kitchen and the clean room bring to life the domestic culture of the mid-20th century; and in the Budaörs room text-and-picture panels present the history of the town: its settlement, costumes and farming, the Corpus Christi flower carpet, the passion play and the expulsion.
In 2022 an expulsion learning trail with five stations opened in the museum’s inner garden. The museum holds an ethnographic, photographic and document collection, and it also runs an online local history archive (MúzeumDigitár, Budaörs Anno).
