About the museum
The Dobmúzeum was founded by the collector Kármán Sándor. His first exhibition, in 1979, presented the history of the drum in Cegléd; in 1990 he staged an exhibition in Kecskemét on a century of development of the jazz drum. In 1992 he set up the first version of the museum in his parents' garage, which soon became one of the town's attractions.
The collection outgrew the garage, so in 1997 the municipality of Cegléd provided a dilapidated building of 300 square metres on the main square. After three years of renovation the museum was opened on 27 November 2000.
The exhibition tells the story of legendary drum kits, famous drummers and instrument makers with the help of photographs, personal objects and instruments. The collection includes drum kits, snare drums, cymbals, drumsticks and percussion instruments, among them instruments from American, English, Japanese and Hungarian makers.
