About the museum
The village museum operates in a brick-based, adobe-walled house with a saddle roof covered in tiles, on the main street of the village. In the courtyard stands a larger residential building, the tisztaház (best house), and a smaller outbuilding; originally two families lived here. The rear part of the main building is still lived in today; the exhibition is in its first two rooms.
Of the two best rooms, the larger one facing the street opens from the smaller, rear one. The original decorative wall painting, made with stencils, has survived. The exhibition presents the typical furnishing of the 1930s with peasant and bourgeois furniture and household textiles, and also illustrates the break-up of peasant traditions; most of the furniture, including the sparherd (range), is the work of local craftsmen.
The textile collection and the original photographs recall the traditional costume of Ceglédbercel, which some of the older generation still wear today. The residential kitchen and pantry in the outbuilding can also be visited.
