About the museum
The Georgikon was founded by Count Festetics György in Keszthely in 1797 and is considered the first agricultural higher education institution in Europe. The farm on Bercsényi utca is a branch of the Magyar Mezőgazdasági Múzeum és Könyvtár.
The exhibitions present the history of agricultural education in Keszthely, the life of farm servants in the 18th and 19th centuries, tools for ploughing and viticulture, implements for cleaning and storing grain, and livestock breeding. The blacksmith's, wheelwright's and cooper's workshops are working workshops. On 19 June 2025 the new permanent exhibition “A Georgikon Gazdasági Oskola 1797–1848” (The Georgikon Economic School 1797–1848) opened.
The site includes a 1.2-hectare hands-on farm (élménygazdaság) with a spice and medicinal herb garden, an orchard, a kiln house, a petting zoo and games for children.
