About the museum
The Kályhák Háza (House of Stoves) in Keszthely stands directly next to the Festetics Castle and presents Hungarian stove traditions in a way unique in Europe. In the continuously expanding exhibition, around seventy stove and oven models currently help visitors get to know the baking, cooking and heating equipment of the different regions.
In another room of the house, in the ceramic experience room, the unique ceramics and decorative objects of the workshop are shown among old furniture and objects. Work goes on in the pottery workshop, which visitors can watch; they can also learn the traditional way of making stove tiles, when the square shape is formed on the potter’s wheel. From the answers to their questions, visitors can learn more about the past, making and use of stoves and ovens.
