Történelmi Panoptikum

About fifty wax figures of Hungarian historical personalities are on display in the cellar system beneath the pedestrian street of Keszthely.

Opening hoursAdmission HUF 2,200

About the museum

The Történelmi Panoptikum operates in a complex cellar system beneath the pedestrian street of Keszthely. The building structure dates from the last century and provides a suitable setting for the exhibition. Fifty Hungarian celebrities are displayed as wax figures in the panoptikum, so visitors can get to know the well-known figures of Hungarian history up close.

The private museum aims to broaden knowledge and strengthen national identity. It is a popular destination for school trips, because alongside entertainment it is a useful supplement to the curriculum, and it has earned recognition among teachers and pupils alike.

The panoptikum is one of the Belvárosi Múzeumok (Inner-City Museums) of Keszthely, which are located close to each other on Kossuth Lajos utca. These include the Népviseletes Babamúzeum (Doll Museum of Folk Costume), the Csigaparlament (Snail Parliament), the Vidor Játékmúzeum (Vidor Toy Museum) and the Nosztalgia és Giccs Múzeum (Museum of Nostalgia and Kitsch). The museums can also be visited with a joint ticket.
