About the museum

The Hévíz local history museum opened in 1998 on the upper floor of the Fontana Filmszínház (Fontana Cinema) and was the first to collect the objects and written records of Hévíz. In summer 2025 it gained a new exhibition space: on the upper floor of the Rózsakert, in the former library, a local history and balneology exhibition opened that surveys thousands of years of history. It is run by the Gróf I. Festetics György Művelődési Központ, Városi Könyvtár és Muzeális Gyűjtemény.

The permanent exhibitions include “Hévíz története” and “Hévízfürdői emlékek” as well as the id. dr. Moll Károly Orvostörténeti Emlékszoba (memorial room for the history of medicine) and a permanent exhibition by the painter and ceramic artist Simon József. Moll Károly is associated with the mapping of the flow of Lake Hévíz and the discovery of the weight bath; his memorial room presents the early days of rheumatology in Hévíz and opened in 2000.
