About the museum
The Hollókői Falumúzeum has operated since 1964 in a former residential house opposite the church in the centre of the old village. The three-compartment building was rebuilt in its present form using the remains of an earlier house already standing in 1867, after the fire of 1909 destroyed much of the village. The building stands at right angles to the street line; its end rests on the slope of the castle hill, and at the front it has a cellar with a descent opening from the street.
The exterior, like that of the other buildings of the protected village, has been faithfully restored in period style, while the interior recalls peasant life in the first half of the last century. The permanent exhibition, arranged by specialists of the Balassagyarmat Palóc Múzeum, depicts the home of a young couple of middling means living together with their child and the elderly parent.
