About the museum

The Hosszúhetény village heritage house stands at the foot of the Hármashegy, at the start of the road to Püspökszentlászló. The house, built of adobe around 1860, was renovated in 2011. It holds one of the most valuable collections in Baranya, which local resident Bocz Árpád built up deliberately over several decades.

The ethnographic material shows the village's folk life from the mid-19th century to the first half of the 20th century. Three of the house's five rooms are traditional in character: the best room (tiszta szoba), the smoky kitchen (füstös konyha) and the guest kitchen (vendégváró konyha). In the best room the famous Hosszúhetény folk costume is on display. In the two exhibition rooms of the renovated building, hemp processing and the local pottery tradition are presented, with play corners for children and interactive worksheets.

The coach house contains many tools and agricultural implements, including a product of the first Hungarian agricultural machine factory: the Röck threshing machine, which is still in working order. Baking flatbread in the clay oven in the courtyard can be arranged by prior booking, and traditional games are available for children.
