About the museum
Kálmán Imre, the composer of the Csárdáskirálynő (The Gypsy Princess), was born in Siófok on 24 October 1882. The museum opened in his birthplace on 22 October 1987, on the 105th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The permanent exhibition in the ground-floor rooms of the birthplace presents Kálmán Imre as a person, the main stages of his career and interesting episodes of his private life.
Over the decades the exhibition has been enriched with several valuable objects and documents. This was made possible by donations from the composer’s widow, Kálmán Vera, his two children, Yvonne and Charles, and his relatives in Hungary. The memorial house also offers temporary exhibitions, themed city walks, programmes and museum education sessions. On the composer’s birthday, 24 October, and on the day of his death, 30 October, every visitor may enter free of charge.
