About the museum
The Vitorlázeum opened on the upper floor of the first sailing clubhouse on Lake Balaton, one of the most venerable buildings in Balatonfüred. The exhibition presents the history of sailing on Lake Balaton in a vivid and playful way: the usual display cases are replaced by experience elements.
A simulator lets visitors try sailing on a stormy Lake Balaton; visitors can learn the basics of navigation and knot-tying, practise hoisting sails, and enjoy the panorama from the terrace that surrounds the building. Pictures and sound, a touch-screen information system, an interactive map of Balaton, film footage of the harbours, binoculars and multilingual digital guided tours help visitors get to know the sailing sport and the lake's once-renowned ships and sailors.
