About the museum
The Lavender House Visitor Centre is the Tihany visitor centre of the Balaton Uplands National Park Directorate, on the shore of the Belső-tó (Inner Lake). It is also the eastern gateway of the Bakony–Balaton Geopark and the visitor centre of the Tihanyi-félsziget Vulkáni Képződményei (Volcanic Formations of the Tihany Peninsula), a European Diploma area.
The interactive exhibition presents the volcanic formations, past and present, of the Tihany Peninsula for all ages: the former activity of the volcanoes, the later tamed landscape and the rich wildlife of the peninsula. A separate section deals with the local history of Tihany lavender. With the help of animators, visitors can take part in a craft session, where objects can be made from lavender. The house also has a gift shop and a café offering lavender specialities.
