About the museum
The museum opened on 26 November 1976 as the Kassák Lajos Emlékmúzeum (Kassák Lajos Memorial Museum) in the Zichy Castle in Óbuda. It operates as part of the Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum (Petőfi Literary Museum) and looks after the life’s work of Kassák Lajos, one of the most defining figures of the Hungarian avant-garde.
The permanent exhibition KASSÁK! presents Kassák’s many-sided work: his editorial, visual-art and literary activities, his public roles, his international contacts and the turning points of his personal life. The exhibition is based on contemporary documents, publications and works of art, and its themes can be explored further online in an associated virtual exhibition.
The permanent exhibition opened on 19 April 2011, based on a concept by Gábor Andrási, Csatlós Judit and Sasvári Edit, with a design by Kemény Gyula. The museum also organises temporary exhibitions, music events, film screenings and workshops.
