About the museum
The museum opened on 8 May 1987 in the presence of Victor Vasarely, as a branch institution of the Szépművészeti Múzeum (Museum of Fine Arts). Its foundation is the generous gift that the artist, born in Hungary and world-famous in France, offered to his homeland in the 1980s, and which he declared inalienable in three of his letters.
The collection contains several hundred original and reproduced works from all periods of Vasarely’s career, alongside library and documentation material. The museum operates in the Zichy Castle in Óbuda, on Szentlélek tér.
The permanent exhibition presents the life’s work of Victor Vasarely from the beginnings to world fame. Two of its rooms also host temporary exhibitions of the Open Structures Art Society (OSAS), and the house also awaits visitors with guided tours, workshops and family programmes.
