About the museum

The memorial house has operated in its present form since 1991, when the completely rebuilt building and the permanent exhibition were handed over. The single-storey corner house at the junction of Katona József utca and Bánk bán utca is a memorial of 18th-century peasant-burgher architecture, with characteristic features of Kecskemét folk architecture, such as the tall, closed, green-painted street entrance door and the large gate. The exhibition presents the local and national cultural life of József Katona's time, the life of the dramatist, his experiences of the theatre in Pest and his work, as well as the most important moments in the story of Bánk bán.
