About the museum
The Kristály Múzeum preserves the heritage of the Ajka glassworks, whose roots go back to the forest glassworks of the 19th century; its reputation was also enhanced by the gold medal won at the Paris World Exhibition. The collection numbers more than 1,500 pieces and presents works representing craft traditions, technological development and a sensitivity to applied art.
The factory no longer operates, but the museum preserves more than one and a half centuries of Hungarian glass culture. Visits are made with a guided tour, which follows the history of the factory from its beginnings to its closure. The tradition of glass cutting is recalled by an engraving workshop.
