About the museum
The founder began porcelain-making experiments in 1826 in this late-Classicist, two-storey museum building, which is now a listed monument. As early as 1852 Fischer Mór set up a permanent exhibition room and a sales showroom there, mainly for commercial purposes. His grandson, Farkasházi Fischer Jenő, laid the foundations of today's museum collection in 1896; shortly before the First World War the factory's museum was opened to the general public, separate from the commercial showroom, and it operated until the Second World War.
The present building was rebuilt in 1964 and reopened as a company collection and industry specialist museum. Since 1991 the museum has operated as a foundation, supported by the Herendi Porcelánmanufaktúra; the complete renovation of the building was finished in 2000. In 2002 it received the Év Múzeuma (Museum of the Year) award.
The permanent exhibition upstairs presents the factory's products from the early years of Herend porcelain-making to the present: the Fischer Mór rooms, the Far Eastern room, the room of prestigious commissions, the rooms of historicism and Art Nouveau, followed by the rooms of the 20th century. On the ground floor there are temporary exhibitions and an original wood-fired kiln.
