About the museum
The Kunkapitány Háza (House of the Cuman Captain) is the large courtyard house of a well-to-do farmer, supplemented with outbuildings, built in the 1860s by the noble Csávás Péter. One of the living rooms is dedicated to the memory of Ilosvai Varga Imre (1814–1865), the great Cuman captain born in Kunhegyes; the other rooms recall the life of the people of the Kunság at that time.
Stepping from the columned open gallery into the entrance hall, visitors can see the photograph and short biography of the great Cuman captain. In the street-facing room stand three original pieces of furniture of Ilosvai Varga Imre: a double bed and an inlaid cupboard; the rest of the furnishings consist of old furniture and objects.
