About the museum
The Köves Daráló (Stone Grinder) exhibition site in Karcag consists of two parts: the grinding mill and the Malomtörténeti Gyűjtemény (Milling History Collection). The grinder was founded by the master miller Sipos József; the protected listed building is unique in the country.
The Milling History Collection presents, in a single room, a professional library, panels and original documents on the milling industry of Karcag's past. The open-air machinery park, made up of various hand grinders, shellers and sorting machines, is also a rarity.
The grinder is belt-driven and works with an electric motor; the grain passes from the hopper through an elevator between the two stones. Bread grain was not ground here; that was done by the town's grinding mills. The room also contains the mázsa (weighing scale), the weights, the véka (measuring bushel), the weighing book and the miller's cart.
