About the museum
The single-storey burgher house was built in the early 19th century in the baroque style, as a notary's residence. In the 1840s Szakál Lajos, a poet of the Reform Era and deputy and then chief county notary, lived here, and in June 1849 he hosted his friend Petőfi Sándor. The first Ladics to move into the house was dr. Ladics György; his descendants lived in it for more than a hundred years.
The family, which kept its traditions, preserved the furniture, objects, costumes, the family library and documents for five generations. The town bought the building and the collection and opened it as a museum in 1989. The legacy is a unique source for the life of the rural bourgeoisie of the Dualist era and the interwar period.
The renewed exhibition kept the original interiors, but tells the story of the family with digital tools: family members speak through a holographic projector, infrared gates and a sound system signal the protection of the furnishings, and interactive installations in the bathroom and kitchen show 19th-century bourgeois life.
